It takes all of us working together to build a successful community. To do this, we must begin stepping outside of our own reality bubble and begin reaching out to others who see the world a bit differently. If you're tired of division and want to find some way to rebuild and establish communication with "the other side", you're invited to attend our first Living Room Conversation on December 7th, 2017 from 4:15-5:45pm at the Round Table Pizza in Lakeport.
In Living Room Conversations, a small group of people people come together to get to know one another in a more meaningful way. Guided by a simple and sociable format, participants practice being open and curious about all perspectives, with a focus on learning from one another, rather than trying to debate the topic at hand.
Our first conversation focuses on the topic "The America We Want to Be":
America’s promise of Liberty, Opportunity, and Equality has drawn people from around the world. We have been a magnet for people that have been persecuted. Today there is a refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe. Families are fleeing for their lives. Nobody wants children to suffer. Yet,they do. Europe and the world is trying to respond to the needs of these families. What is our role?
We're looking for people on both sides of the aisle who are open to civility and communication, and who truly want to listen to what their friends and neighbors believe in that may be different from their own particular point of view. If this is you, and you agree to adhere to these conversation agreements, come join us and bring a friend from the "other side" along with you.
There's no charge for this event, though it would be courteous if each attendee order an item off the menu. RSVP by sending an email to admin@thrivelakecounty.org, as seating is limited.
